Education and Training

The USGE provides training geared to the specific needs and concerns of our Local officers and activists. We are proud to be one of a small group of PSAC Components to offer such 'in-house' education opportunities.

The USGE training program was created in 2004 as a pilot program. At the 2008 USGE Convention in Edmonton the delegates voted unanimously to keep the program.

USGE provied training twice per year in each region except in the year of Regional Conferences.

As it has done for many years, the USGE also provides training as an integral part of both the National Local Presidents Meeting and our Regional Conferences — each of which is held every three years.

As well, in accordance with the USGE Education Policy, each Local can request training. The planning of Local-requested training shall be done in conjuction with the respective Regional Vice-President and will take into consideration membership needs, local funds and other courses sponsored by other education programs. Each Regional Vice-President shall submit a Locals-requested annual training plan to the National Office for review and planning no later than January 30th.

In July 2010, the National Executive created a USGE Standing Education Committee. Their mandate is as follows:

Each member of the committee will solicit from RVPs in their region all information relating to education and training. Each committee member will forward that information to the USGE Standing Education Committee (SEC) for review and recommendations.
