USGE supports locked-out UCTE members at Vancouver airport
USGE is supporting members of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) that have been locked out by their employer Servisair at Vancouver airport.
The lock-out was imposed by Servisair on July 19 and has caused major flight delays. As well, the employer's refusal to negotiate a first collective agreement is also contributing to long delays for flights waiting to be refuelled.
Members of Union of Canadian Transportation Employees Local 20221 employed by Servisair, under its subsidiary’s name, GlobeGround Fuel Service, provide fuelling and calculate fuel loads to fuel to Air Canada, WestJet and other airlines at Vancouver International Airport.
The employer is currently replacing veteran fuelling supervisors with replacement workers from outside the area. A better idea would be for the employer to sit down and negotiate a fair contract and end the lock-out.
USGE is asking all its members to avoid flights to and from Vancouver airport, using Victoria or Abbotsford airports instead.
Further updates on this lock-out can be had by going to the UCTE website at www.ucte.com .
